Lake Wentworth Description

When anyone writes about or lists the premier Smallmouth Bass fishing lakes in New England, or the best place to fish in the state, Lake Wentworth is almost always near the top. With nearly 14 miles of shoreline, a rocky bottom and numerous islands, there are plenty of places to fish. Wentworth is noted primarily for its Smallmouth Bass but, as an added bonus, there are large schools of White Perch which the NH Fish and Game Dept. encourages anglers to pursue. If you come across a school of White Perch, the fishing can be fast and furious. Wentworth Lake is also known for it's Burbot(aka Cusk) fishing. It is one of a few lakes/ponds in New Hampshire where Cusk fishing devices are now allowed due to the 2009 rule changes. There are many summer cottages and homes along the shores and the lake is heavily used during the summer. But the anglers who fish early in the spring and in the evenings during the summer can avoid the crowds. Fishing pressure as a whole is very light, considering the lakes potential. Access to the lake may be made with car-top boats or canoes off Rt. 109 at Claypit Brook. Trailored boats can be launched at Wentworth State Park. A small fee is charged for launching and parking. Average ice-out date is May 1st.

Lake Wentworth is located in Carroll County in eastern New Hampshire, in the town of Wolfeboro. At 3,116 acres (12.61 km2)[1], it is the seventh-largest lake located entirely in New Hampshire. Water from Lake Wentworth flows through the short Smith River into Crescent Lake and then over the dam into Lake Winnipesaukee in Wolfeboro.
